Chemistry and Human Health | Emory College ’26

Kalp Soni is a sophomore at Emory University interested in bioengineering and the applications of chemistry in medicine. Additionally, he is interested in learning more about how he can improve healthcare access in underserved areas, both on the local and global level, with the implementation of community health programs. He is on the planning on majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Predictive Health while on the pre-med track.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Morris, Kalp hopes to expand his knowledge in the field of stem cell bioengineering in cardiovascular diseases. His current research focuses on cell delivery with a novel hydrogel, using polymer chemistry to learn more about how biomaterials can be used to improve regeneration of damaged tissue and blood vessels in the heart.

In the future, Kalp plans to use his experience from the Yoon lab to pursue an MD-PhD. He envisions leveraging his training to develop innovative treatments and technologies, specifically in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. By integrating research with clinical practice, Kalp aims to improve patient outcomes and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge.

Outside of academics, Kalp loves playing sports recreationally and watching sports. He is an avid fan of the Boston Celtics.
